Although still a new science, only coming into its own in the early part of the 20th century, quantum physics has transformed the way we view and understand the universe. It also has a profound influence on our everyday lives. Quantum mechanics is behind a vast number of technological advances that make modern life possible; from the personal computer to lasers, quantum physics is everywhere.

One field of science still slow to adopt many quantum principles is medicine. But all that is quickly changing, and the initial push by many pioneering physicians has demonstrated that applying quantum physics to medicine leads to greater personalization of treatments, and more effective therapeutic results. Even more obscure and so-called “unscientific” methods of healing such as shamanic healing may be better explained through quantum mechanics. Niels Bohr, a well-known Danish physicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922, proposed that much of what we call reality was dependent on an “observer effect,” and that this could help explain the power of shamanistic healing and the interaction between the reality of local space-time and human consciousness.

And although the concepts found in quantum physics can be difficult to understand, more and more books on the subject are available. Here are just a few of the books that help demystify quantum physics and show the important role it plays in health and well-being.

1. Mindful Universe: Quantum Mechanics and the Participating Observer
Author:  Henry P. Stapp
The classical mechanistic idea of nature that prevailed in science during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was an essentially mindless conception: the physically described aspects of nature were asserted to be completely determined by prior physically described aspects alone, with our conscious experiences entering only passively. In the new theory, quantum mechanics, our conscious experiences enter into the dynamics in specified ways not fixed by the physically described aspects alone. Consequences of this radical change in our understanding of the connection between mind and brain are described. This second edition contains two new chapters investigating the role of quantum phenomena in the problem of free will and in the placebo effect.

2. Vibrational Medicine: The #1 Handbook of Subtle-Energy Therapies
Author: Dr. Richard Gerber
In this book, Dr. Richard Gerber explains current theories about how various energy therapies work and offers readers new insights into the physical and spiritual perspectives of health and disease. Trained in a variety of alternative therapies as well as conventional Western medicine, Dr. Gerber provides an encyclopedic treatment of energetic healing, covering subtle-energy fields, acupuncture, Bach flower remedies, homeopathy, radionics, crystal healing, electrotherapy, radiology, chakras, meditation, and psychic healing.

3. The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe
Author: Lynne McTaggert
In this groundbreaking classic, investigative journalist Lynne McTaggart reveals a radical new paradigm—that the human mind and body are not separate from their environment but a packet of pulsating power constantly interacting with this vast energy sea, and that consciousness may be central in shaping our world. The Field is a highly readable scientific detective story presenting a stunning picture of an interconnected universe and a new scientific theory that makes sense of supernatural phenomena. Documented by distinguished sources, The Field is a book of hope and inspiration for today’s world.

4. Beyond Einstein: The Cosmic Quest for the Theory of the Universe
Author: Michio Kaku
Beyond Einstein takes readers on an exciting excursion into the discoveries that have led scientists to the brightest new prospect in theoretical physics today. Co-authored by one of the leading pioneers in superstrings, Michio Kaku, the book approaches scientific questions with the excitement of a detective story, offering a fascinating look at the new science that may make the impossible possible, and providing the underlying principles into how quantum physics may be used for a new understanding of medicine and health.

5. Tachyon Energy: A New Paradigm in Holistic Healing
Author: Gabriel Cousens
The authors of this book demonstrate a tachyon theory that unveils the delicate weave of Spirit, kundalini, health, physics, and biology as a subtle dance out of traditional healing. This book explains, in the authors’ persuasive words and case studies, the breakthrough holistic healing technology called Tachyon energy. Benefits include a more rapid healing and at least a partial reversal of the aging process. They have successfully merged concepts of science and spirituality, as they bridge the faster than light world of existence with our slower than light world of form. The reader of this book will understand profoundly how tachyon energy is the source of all frequencies as well as the source of all healing.

6. The Holographic Universe: The Revolutionary Theory of Reality
Author: Michael Talbot
Two of the world’s most eminent thinkers believe that the universe itself may be a giant hologram, quite literally a kind of image or construct created, at least in part, by the human mind. University of London physicist David Bohm, a protege of Einstein and one of the world’s most respected quantum physicists, and Stanford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram, an architect of our modern understanding of the brain, have developed a remarkable new way of looking at the universe.

7. Decoding Reality: The Universe as Quantum Information
Author: Vlatko Vedral
Vlatko Vedral is one of the key researchers in quantum science. In this book, he takes the reader on a guided tour through the bizarre realm of quantum physics. At this sub-sub-subatomic level, we find such things as the interaction of separated quantum particles–what Einstein called “spooky action at a distance.” In fact, Vedral notes, recent evidence suggests that quantum weirdness, once thought to be limited to the tiniest scale, may actually reach into the macro world and make teleportation a real possibility. It is in quantum physics, he writes, that we really can find the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.
