Introduction to Intravenous Laser Therapy

Using an intravenous method for delivering laser light therapy was first introduced by a Russian doctor in 1981 to treat cardiovascular disease. It has since been developed to treat a variety of conditions and ailments.

Intravenous laser therapy, also called IV laser therapy or Weberneedle Endolaser therapy, brings the benefits of laser therapy beneath the skin. One of your skin’s major functions is to act as a barrier, and this is no different when it comes to using laser therapy.

IV laser therapy involves inserting a fiber optic catheter into a vein, interstitial space, or even a joint to bring the benefits of laser light closer to the targeted area. This allows for greater benefits and results of various light therapy. The healing effects of red, green, blue, yellow, and ultraviolet lasers are now able to penetrate the skin by simply being placed beneath it.

Benefits of Intravenous Laser Therapy

Benefits of IV laser therapy are vast and range from managing blood cholesterol by normalizing lipid values, improved oxygenation, increase in nitric oxide, reducing platelet aggregation (thus reducing risk for clot formation), and helping to activate the immune system.

Areas in which intravenous laser therapy can be beneficial include managing chronic diseases like liver and kidney disease, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic pain, and Fibromyalgia. Other areas of benefit include managing heart disease, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.

Mental health concerns like depression, panic attacks, and burnout can also benefit from IV laser therapy, specifically when using yellow laser light. Yellow light helps enhance mood and has detoxing effects.

The blue laser used in endo venous laser therapy helps fight infection and inflammation due to its known anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. Ultraviolet IV laser therapy can help improve the overall immune system by improving oxygen absorption, preventing viral, bacterial, and fungal replication, and improve how the body eliminates toxins.

IV laser therapy using red light also helps restore immune function, stimulate metabolism, and works to calm nerves, heart rhythm, and can serve to help relax muscles. Using a green laser improves circulation, blood viscosity (thickness), and improves glucose metabolism to name a few benefits.

How Intravenous Laser Therapy Works

Intravenous laser therapy utilizes Low Laser Light Therapy (LLLT). LLLT has shown benefits in regards to wound management, inflammation, and neurological problems. By exposing blood to laser light therapy using the Weberneedle Endo Laser, circulation can be improved by stimulating red blood cell production.

LLLT also promotes immune cell function and this is made possible by bypassing the skin as a barrier to stimulate white blood cell production and overall function. By using the various color rods which all have different wavelengths and benefits, specific concerns can be addressed with intravenous laser therapy.

By using a small catheter, an optical fiber is inserted into the vein. The light from the laser stimulates molecules in your blood. Substances that react to light are called photosensitive, and IV light therapy is able to directly activate them.

Weberneedle Endolaser therapy takes about 10-60 minutes per session. Treatment duration is determined by your healthcare provider.

Behind the Science

Science & Safety

A 2016 study with 30 patients evaluated the effects of IV laser therapy on shoulder myofascial pain syndrome. Patients received 12 sessions of therapy. Results showed a drastic decrease in pain as well as pain disability. Quality of life was also improved greatly. No side effects were noted in this study.

A small study with 13 patients with Type 2 Diabetes found the use of IV blood irradiation decreased arginase expression and decreased epidermal growth factor receptor expression. This may help reduce neuroinflammation and damage thereafter.

A study evaluating the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis found IV laser therapy to be beneficial in promoting remission. The study was small, with only 21 participants, but shows promise in using intravenous laser therapy to help with inflammatory diseases.

When evaluating the effects of intravenous laser therapy on fibromyalgia patients found IV laser irradiation of the blood improved pain, sleep, mood, and quality of life. When compared to drug therapy, medications were only able to reduce pain intensity in the same trial. No adverse events were noted.

Spectrum

Where does IV Laser Therapy fall on the medical spectrum?

IV Laser Therapy falls under ‘Biological Medicine’ section of the medical spectrum.

Alternative Medicine

Also known as holistic medicine, it is the study and application of nature, botany, energy, and technology to bring the body back to balance and address the root causes of disease without detrimental side effects, toxins and chemicals, or a lifetime of intervention.

Biological Medicine

Also known as European Biological Medicine, this modality, popular in Germany and Switzerland, applies numerous therapies that aim to restore the body’s regulatory and self-healing capacity by promoting proper regeneration on a cellular and organ level.

Conventional Medicine

Conventional medicine is the most recognized and practiced section of the medical spectrum that includes pharmacological drugs, surgical procedures, lab testing, and more in an attempt to reduce symptoms and manage disease.

Conventional Therapies

The Innovative Medicine approach considers all conventional options and appropriately prescribes or refers patients to specialists in which this approach would be most suited.

Emotional Therapies

Mental health and the study of mind-body medicine is an integral part of the medical spectrum that can often go overlooked and unaddressed.

Psycho-Emotional Intervention

The study of psycho-neuro-immunology (PNI) has shown how our thoughts and psychological state impact our biochemistry and can lead to disease. Any comprehensive treatment plan must address psychological stress to be successful.

Spiritual Practices & Therapies

We often confuse spiritual practices with religion, but the role of spirituality, consciousness, awareness, purpose, and information on a quantum level is incredibly important in healing.

Receiving Therapy

IV Laser Therapy Protocol – Receiving Treatments

The New York Center of Innovative Medicine (NYCIM) is one of the few medical clinics in the world to offer IV Laser Therapy with the Weberneedle Endolaser from Germany. In addition, we offer the Weber Spectra Laser Watch and Weber IR LED Helmet. However, the use of this or any of our numerous therapeutic options is only performed on patients after an in-depth health evaluation. Our ultimate goal is the complete restoration of health in the most efficient and safe manner, and with so many therapeutic options, it is impossible to know if IV Laser Therapy is right for you without an initial evaluation at our clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

You shouldn’t feel any adverse effects after IV laser therapy. You may note some tenderness or bruising at the IV injection site, but other than that, there is minimal downtime.

Low-level laser therapy or LLLT works by inducing a photochemical reaction at a cellular level. Cells that were previously operating at a low energy level now become excited and begin functioning at a higher energy level. This energy can be used to do various functions related to healing, pain relief, and reduced inflammation.
